Rockstar’s VP of product development, Jeronimo Barrera, praised the upcoming release of GTA IV in an interview with MTV. Barrera said “I don’t see anything being bigger in 2008 in any entertainment” followed by “We think it’s that big, and we just have to get the word out.” He was also quoted saying the PS3 was the major contributing factor in delaying the title’s original October 07′ release date.
Shortly after showing the game to journalists at E3 in July of 2007, decided to delay the title. At the time CEO Strauss Zelnick blamed the delay on “technological challenges.” Jeronimo says the two versions of GTA IV are now “neck and neck”, leaving users of both platforms fully satisfied. Back in August of last year a Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter, made claims that Rockstar had difficulty developing the game for PS3. He also said the Rockstar had a contractural agreement with Sony forbidding them to release an early Xbox version of the game.
Barrera said “We wanted the time, and I think we made the right choice,”
“It was very difficult to make the choice because everybody wanted it. But we thought, you know, what with that extra bit of time, it’s just going to be that much better and there will be more systems out.”
He also says that the April release of our favorite video game will be the next evolution to open world gaming.
“We don’t want anybody else to raise the bar for a genre that we created and that everybody else ripped off,” he said.
Rockstar has denied the rumor that the Xbox version of the game will require a hard drive.
